Our state of the art large galvanized steel frame houses are covered with polycarbonate sheathing.
This material selectively filters the light spectrum, allowing more "healthy" light to reach the roses
while blocking what is not beneficial. In addition to the polycarbonate covering, we use high-pressure
sodium* lamps because relying on Mother Nature alone to provide enough light is a big gamble, especially
in the dark winter months of December, January and February. Having the ability to control the amount
of light the rose crop receives dramatically improves production and quality.
*High-Pressure Sodium Lamps: High pressure sodium lamps provide more of the red/orange
spectrum, great for the flowering and fruiting stage. These systems are especially recommended for
supplemental lighting when some sunlight is present. They are the most energy efficient artificial light
source.
